Cone Biopsy Cervix

A cone biopsy cervix sample tissue is sent to the lab to be examined for abnormal human papilloma virus related dysplasia or other ASCUS causes. During this procedure a funnel-shaped area of tissue will be removed using a laser or knife, and then sent to a lab to be examined for cancer cells and any margins of dysplasia. A follow up exam is scheduled 4-6 weeks later to make sure the cervical area has healed.
