Leep Biopsy
A leep biopsy allows for closer laboratory examination of human papillomavirus caused atypical tissue, as does a cone biopsy.
This treatment uses a wire loop that has a painless electric current running through it that cut away the areas of abnormal cells from the cervix. This procedure has about a 75-80% success rate. The risks involved with it include possible cervical incompetence, cervical stenosis, severe bleeding, or infection.

When a Pap smear comes back abnormal, a doctor many times recommends doing a colposcopy, including taking a tissue sample. If both tests determine that cervical dysplasia is present, especially if the symptoms are moderate or severe, then a loop electrosurgical excision procedure is often recommended as a treatment.
